The Civil Syrian Movement (CSM)

The Civil Syrian Movement (CSM) strives to establish a civil and democratic state in Syria, governed by a parliamentarian system that depends on the separation of the three branches of government and on the independence of the judiciary, in which the equal rights of all citizens regardless of gender, religion, sect, or ethnic or cultural origin is guaranteed. The CSM works to propagate and emphasize the values of civil society through all political, legal, educational, and cultural means available inside and outside Syria.

The CSM sees in the internationally agreed upon principles of freedom, dignity, and human rights valid sources for the drafting of the constitution and the laws of Syria in ways that will safeguard the rights of individual citizens and of ethnic, religious, and cultural groups, which form the Syrian people, and which have enriched its long history by its diversity and complementarity. The CSM considers that preserving this diversity and acknowledging the history and cultures of its constituent groups will offer a confirmation of the civility of Syria as a homeland, a state, and a people, a platform for its heritage and history, and a sure warrant for its prosperity, now and in the future.

The CSM aims to be an organization open to all Syrians who shares its visions and goals, whether they live inside of outside Syria. It also aspires to cooperate with all national movements to build the state of citizenship, civil rights, and equality under the law in Syria, the state of true economic, cultural, and scientific advancement, and the state of social security and the pursuit of dignified life for all of its citizens.
